So here it is springtime and some of us are going to be celebrating Easter tomorrow. When we were children it was such a fun time. There were egg hunts, egg decorating, and visits from the Easter bunny. What was wrong with that? Nowadays people are afraid to acknowledge holidays for fear of offending someone! Now when did all that nonsense start and once again I ask who is the Grand Poo Pa who told us not to??
Over the years it appears that even preschools are shy about celebrating holidays. We totally get that there are people of different cultures celebrating other holidays, one such holiday right now is Passover. Why can’t we acknowledge them all and share our traditions with one another? Isn’t that what it is all about anyway? There are always parents who are willing to come in and share their family traditions with the class. What a wonderful thing!
We are taking a stand here and I hope more of you will join in. It’s time to once again ENJOY and CELEBRATE special days and feel free to do so. So we will sign off here by saying Happy Easter!

So true. I totally agree with what you are saying.I myself work in childcare and we dont always take the time to acknowledge all the given holidays, and with so many different cultures that we have in our program it is a shame we dont get our parents more involved. I think celebrating every holiday whether it be passover,Easter,Christmas or Hannakuh would be an added benifit to any childs education.
I absolutely agree! I think its wonderful if a daycare center celebrates Easter by doing Easter egg hunts for the children, decorating eggs and celebrating! At the daycare center I work at, we had each child make their own easter egg bag in preparation for the Easter Egg Hunt we put on for them that afternoon. We also invited each parent to come and watch their child hunt for eggs
. In addition we provided refreshments for all of the parents and children too! All week long we had been reading books about Easter and decorating our classroom in preparation for our Easter Celebration! Celebrating all holidays is fun for children! Why not celebrate and teach them about the holidays while they are in preschool?!
