Well here we are caught up in the holiday season once again! Whether you realize it or not, the kids get all caught up in the hustle and bustle of it all as well. They can feel the excitement and also the stress .
That being said, we hope you will all take a day to just hang out and relax. Take a breather people.
Also, the season can lead to a case of the “gimmees” where all the children think about is what THEY are going to get. Can’t say that we blame them huh! :>) One thing we always made sure we did at our preschool was pick an organization that could use some help. Typically we picked a shelter for abused women and their children.
While we didn’t get into the details of course , we simply explained to the children that not all children had a nice home to live in and needed our help. They really got involved and helped their parents pick out toys and clothes for these kids they didn”t even know. It was a great learning experience for all. So you may want to encourage your center to do something like this if they don”t already.
As another option, especially if you and your children are animal lovers, you may opt to donate to an animal rescue. They are always in need of donations. As an example, there is an author in Connecticut named Teresa Pelham who wrote a wonderful children’s book about rescuing her dog Roxy.
She and Roxy visit schools and read the book to the children. She donates a hefty portion of the proceeds from the sale of her book to dog rescuers. Now that is a beautiful thing! If you would like to visit her website please go to www.RoxysForeverHome.com. You can buy a beautiful book for your child while giving to a worthy cause. After all, isn’t that what this season is all about?
Merry Xmas and Happy Hanukkah!
